Itabi natin ang bawat pabigat at ang pagkakasalang madaling  bumibitag sa atin.

Ang hukbo ng bantog na emperador ng Roma, si Alexander the Great, ay lulusob sa Persia. May saglit na muntik  na silang matalo. Sobra kasi ang pandarambong na ginawa ng kanyang mga sundalo sa natalong bayan dahil sa bigat ng dala-dalahan at hindi na sila epektibo.

Iniutos ni Alexander na samsamin ang nadambong at itambak sa isang lugar – at sunugin. Nagreklamo ang mga sundalo ngunit di nagtagal at nakita nila ang kagalingan ng ginawa ng kumander nila. May nagsulat, “Para silang nabigyan ng pakpak. Muling gumaan ang kanilang mga katawan – at sila’y nagtagumpay.

Bilang kawal ni Cristo, dapat nating iwaksi ang anumang sagabal sa pakikipaghamok sa ating espiritwal na kaaway. Upang magtagumpay tayo, ang isusuot lang natin ay ang “baluti ng Dios.” (Efeso 6:11-17).

Itinutulad din ng Biblia ang Cristiano sa mananakbo. Para manalo sa takbuhan, dapat “itabi ang bawat pabigat” na makakabawas ng ating lakas at katatagan (Hebreo 12:1). Ang pabigat na ito ay maaaring labis na pagnanasa ng mga material na bagay, pag-ibig sa salapi, walang taros na pagkahilig sa kasayahan, bihag ng pita ng laman, o pagpapaalipin sa batas.

Tunay na kung nais nating lumaban sa mabuting labanan ng pananampalataya, matiyagang tiisin ang espiritwal na takbuhan, ang dapat tandaan: “Itabi ang bawat pabigat!”

PANSAMANTALANG MGA LUHA

Pagkatapos na kayo’y magdusa ng sandaling panahon, ang Dios ng buong biyaya… ay Siya  ring magpapanumbalik, magpapatibay, at magpapalakas sa inyo. – 1 Pedro 5:10

Isinulat ng awtor na si George MacDonald, “Dumating ang Panginoon para pahirin ang ating mga luha. Ginagawa Niya ito,  at gagawin Niya ito agad hanggang magawa Niyang dumaloy ito ng  wala ng kapaitan – kaya sinabi Niya na mapalad ang mga nahahapis sapagkat may paparating na pang-aliw.

At habang naghihintay ng kaaliwang ito, makakasiguro tayo na hindi tutulutan ng Dios na masubok tayo ng higit sa kakayahan nating pasanin ito. Bawat pagsubok sa buhay ay nakatakda. Bawat mahirap na sitwasyon ay malalampasan sa pamamagitan ng Kanyang  pag-ibig. Di Niya tutulutang  maghirap o masaktan man nang kahit isang saglit sa  itinakdang  panahon. Sabi ng isang Kawikaan, “para sa isang tupa na naahitan na ng balahibo ang buong katawan, sukat na sukat ng Dios ang hangin para di ito ginawin.” Ang ibig sabihin, hindi pahihintulutan ng Dios na magapi ang mga walang kakayahang lumaban sa dagok ng buhay.

Maaaring malalalim na dagat ng buhay ang tinatawid mo, o ang buhay mo tulad ng ginto ay dapat dalisayin sa pamamagitan ng apoy. Ngunit sa gitna ng mga ganitong tiisin, pangako ng Dios na lagi Siyang kasama sa hirap, nakikiramay, matapat na kaibigan. At Siya na “Dios ng biyaya ay magpapanumbalik, magpapatibay at magpapalakas sa inyo.” (1 Pedro 5:10).

At pag nakumpleto na ang kanyang gawain sa atin, iuuwi Niya tayo sa langit kung saan papahirin Niya lahat ng luha natin – hanggang walang hanggan (Pahayag 21:4).

WHO WAS CORNELIUS IN THE BIBLE?

Who was the Cornelius mentioned in the Bible?  What can we learn about him from the Scriptures?

Cornelius, Roman Centurion

This man, Cornelius, was no small figure in the land of Judea.   His being a Roman Centurion meant that he had under his command, at the bare minimum, at least one hundred men because the word centurion comes from the Latin root “centum” which means one hundred but there is wide disputation about this fact because most centurions under the Roman tribal system, called the Servian reforms, commanded somewhere between 200 to 1000 men so it’s obvious that Cornelius was a man of great importance and was already widely known to the Jews who were living in Judea (Acts 10:22).

A God-Fearing Man

Someone who is not converted to Christianity can actually still be considered as a God-fearing man because that is what Cornelius was called by the Jews. Although that is not enough to be saved, it does show that Cornelius was seeking to know God and was living a life of obedience that was pleasing to God.  Known as “a devout man who feared God with all his household [he] gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God” (Acts 10:2).  This man was naturally not  a Jew but God was about to show the church that He is going to extend His salvation to the Gentiles in a big way and so it was “About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.” And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God” (Acts 10:3-5).  This shows that if anyone earnestly desires to seek after God and is living a life pleasing to Him, God can be found and Cornelius found Him about 3pm (the ninth hour) or actually God found Cornelius, for while he was praying he saw a vision…an angel sent from God came to Him and like all of us would, he “stared at him in terror” but showing his willingness to obey, he said “What is it, Lord?”  God had apparently heard his prayers and seen his alms-giving and as a memorial, they had wafted up to God and were well pleasing to Him.  That’s how Cornelius had gotten God’s attention.  There can be no doubt that Cornelius was a God-fearing man but he was about to know God like never before.

The Angel Speaks to Cornelius

God wanted to save Cornelius and so the angel that God sent tells him to “send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter.  He is lodging with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.”  When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him, and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa” (Acts 10:5-8). The very next day when these men were on their way to go and get Peter (Acts 10:9), Peter was up on his roof praying about noon time when Peter fell into a trance and saw the heavens open up and the unclean foods appeared to Him and the Lord told him to“Rise, Peter; kill and eat,” Peter said “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean” (Acts 10:14).  The voice came to Peter and said“What God has made clean, do not call common” (Acts 10:15).

Peter Ponders the Vision

While Peter was perplexed about this and couldn’t figure out what this all meant, “the men who were sent by …

@ THE BACK…

…Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood at the gate and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there” (Acts 10:17b-18).  It was “while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you.  Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them” (Acts 10:19-20).  That’s when “Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?”  And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”  So he invited them in to be his guests” (Acts 10:21-23a).

Peter meets Cornelius

On the very next day, Peter and some of the brothers went into Caesarea to go to Cornelius’ house.  When “Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.  But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man” (Acts 10:25-26).  Peter explained that before it was unlawful for Jews to go into a Gentile’s house but God has showed him that no one should be regarded as unclean anymore (Acts10:28).  Cornelius told Peter about the vision and Peter understood that God has now opened the door for all nations and peoples to be saved (Acts 10:34-35). After Peter tells them what the gospel is all about, the Holy Spirit came upon those who were listening and after receiving the Holy Spirit, they were all baptized (Acts 10:44-48).

Peter Criticized

When Peter returned, the Jews jumped on him  about this and criticized him for associating with the Gentiles (Acts 11:1-3) but Peter explained what he saw in the trance and that God has now declared that Gentiles are not to be regarded as unclean and that God makes no distinction now between the Jew and the Gentile (Acts 11:12).  It was “when they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying,“Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life” (Acts 11:18).

Conclusion

Today we know that God is no respecter of persons and that salvation is not through race but by grace.  Today, if you hear the Holy Spirit speaking to you through His written Word, come to Him like Cornelius did.  God accepts those who repent and confess their sins and then put their trust in Christ.  God is not willing that anyone at all ever perish (2 Pet 3:9) which means that He wants all to be saved who humble themselves and acknowledge their sins and then turn from them and put trust in the Lord Jesus Christ…and then they will be saved (Acts 16:30-31)

ANG KABUTIHAN NI CORNELIO

Si Cornelio ay opisyal ng militar sa Roma noong unang siglo. Tungkulin niya ay panatilihin ang kapayapaan sa magulong panahon sa Judea. Karamihan ng Romano noon ay maraming dios-diosan, ngunit hindi si Cornelio. May takot siya sa isang tunay na Dios, mapagbigay sa mga dahop at palaging nananalangin (Gawa 10:2). Bagamat di tanggap ng mga Judio na isa siya sa kanila, kinilala siya ng Dios na isa sa mga Kanya. Ayon si Cornelio sa Dios sa kung ano ang mabuti at ginagawa niya ito.

Dahil sa kabutihan at dalangin ni Cornelio, pinili siya ng Diyos para sa ispesyal na tungkulin, at pinadala ang isang anghel para sabihin kung anong gagawin niya. Di ipinaliwanag ng anghel kung bakit at di sinabi ang magiging resulta nito, ngunit sinunod ni Cornelio ang mga gagawin. Dahil sa kanyang pagtalima, siya at ang kanyang sambahayan ay naging mga unang Hentil na nanampalataya at tumanggap ng Banal na Espiritu.

Ang halimbawa ni Cornelio ay nagpapaalala na di lang ang mabuti nating ginagawa ang nakikita ng Dios kundi naghahanap Siya ng mga taong katulad Niya. Nais Niyang gawin silang kamanggagawa sa pagbabago ng mundo.

Kapag sinunod natin ang halimbawa ni Cornelio, maaaring gamitin ng Dios ang mga simpleng kabutihan sa pagbabago ng mundo.

Panalangin:

Panginoon, ang kahabagan ay bahagi ng Iyong katangian, at ang kabutihan ay isa sa pinakamabuting paraan upang ipakita sa mundo kung ano Ka. Nawa’y mapuno ng kahabagan Mo ang puso ko at dumaloy ito sa buhay ng mga taong nakakasama ko. Amen.

Ang kabutihan ay langis na nag-aalis ng galit at hidwaan sa buhay.

“Maging mabait kayo sa isa’t isa, mga mahabagin, nagpapatawad sa isa’t isa, gaya ng pagpapatawad sa inyo ng Diyos kay Cristo.”

Efeso 4:32

ANG ISTORYA NI CORNELIO

SI APOSTOL Pedro yaong nakatayo, at ang mga nasa likuran niya ay ilan sa kaniyang mga kaibigan. Pero bakit may yumuyuko kay Pedro? Dapat ba? Sino kaya siya?

Siya’y si CORNELIO, pinuno sa hukbong Romano. Inutusan siya na anyayahan si Pedro sa kaniyang bahay. Alamin natin kung bakit.

Ang unang mga tagasunod ni Jesus ay mga Hudiyo. Si CORNELIO ay hindi Hudiyo. Pero mahal niya ang Diyos at gumagawa siya ng mabuti sa iba. Isang hapon, may anghel na nagpakita sa kaniya at nagsabi: ‘Natutuwa ang Diyos sa iyo at didinggin niya ang iyong mga panalangin. Ipasundo mo ang lalaking nagngangalang Pedro. Nakatira siya sa Joppe sa bahay ni Simon.’

Noon din, inutusan ni CORNELIO ang ilang lalaki para hanapin si Pedro. Kinaumagahan, si Pedro ay nasa bubungan ng bahay ni Simon. Ipinakita sa kaniya ng Diyos ang isang pangitain ng malaking balutan na punung-puno ng mga hayop. Ayon sa batas ng Diyos, ang mga hayop na ito ay marurumi at di dapat kanin, pero isang boses ang nagsabi: ‘Bumangon ka, Pedro. Pumatay ka at kumain.’

‘Hindi!’ sagot ni Pedro. ‘Kailanma’y hindi pa ako kumain ng marumi.’ Pero sinabi uli ng boses: ‘Huwag mong tawagin na marumi ang mga bagay na nilinis ng Diyos.’ Tatlong beses nangyari ito, kaya nagtaka si Pedro sa kahulugan nito. Pagkatapos ay dumating ang mga lalaking inutusan ni CORNELIO at ipinagtanong si Pedro.

Sinalubong sila ni Pedro. Sinabi ng mga lalaki na isang anghel ang nag-utos kay CORNELIO para anyayahan si Pedro sa bahay niya. Pumayag si Pedro kaya kinaumagahan ay umalis na sila.

Pagdating doon, sinalubong sila ni CORNELIO. Lumuhod ito at yumuko sa paanan ni Pedro. Pero sinabi ni Pedro: ‘Tumayo ka; ako rin ay tao lang.’ Oo, ipinapakita ng Bibliya na maling yumuko sa isang tao. Si Jehova lang ang dapat nating sambahin.

Nangaral si Pedro sa mga nagkakatipon. Samantalang nagsasalita siya, ipinadala ng Diyos ang kaniyang banal na espiritu, at ang mga tao ay nakapagsalita sa iba’t-ibang wika. Namangha ang mga alagad na kasama ni Pedro, kasi akala nila ang Diyos ay sa mga Hudiyo lang may paglingap. Kaya nalaman nila na ang Diyos ay hindi nagtatangi ng tao sa alinmang bansa. Hindi ba mabuting tandaan ito?

The Story of the Bank Teller

While making transaction on my stolen atm card at one of the prominent bank, I was greeted by the teller seated in the customer service and another client just come to renew his old atm card as well. Seeing him that he is working at smart and is older than me, the teller focus on him and interview him quite a little about his investments. Suddenly, she was offering the man a UITF investment of their bank because of the high yields, I heard her reason where due to inflation and because the man is saving diligently she was offering it that it is like saving also. She keep on explaining when he ask the man whether in his 30 years in company does he have any investment and the man said none. So she said “conservative po pala” and she get some paper with one of their investment offer with its portfolio, and she said “eto po sir bagay sa inyo- Equity” without letting the man decide and answer a risk profile. It is awesome to have investments, great to have savings, but it is wiser to have protection, preparedness and awareness (learning from the same book that no matter how huge or good your investment is if you do not know and understand how it performs then it would be useless - the untold story)

I have met and talk to different people, encounter people who want and are willing to do everything to be able to achieve their dreams. But one way or another, along the marathon in life and their financial journey, either they easily quit or give up to push through what they have started, some even are hesitant to start the change they need to embrace, the difficult of going beyond the normal routine of their life. Yesterday during our financial mentoring discussion, I also learned from a friend that his granny was burden with debts and later on committed suicide. The Fact of Life that sounds funny when discuss is but a serious matter to take in consideration which Many Filipino are still incapacitated to know due to comfort, procrastination, fears, doubts and avoidance of change in their routine activities. Thus, making me to understand that I need to be more aggressive with my own economy and help to devote more time in reaching more family to lessen and much better avoid their resorting out of going into all kinds of debts.

Sometimes are the good time to think and re-visit my dream to where I would really want to be next year, 2-3, 5, 10 and 20 - 30 yrs from now.
